RoleCreative Director & Exhibition Design

The challenge

TECAN is a Swiss leader in laboratory automation — spanning genomics, cell biology, clinical diagnostics and drug discovery — a brand whose value is highly technical and easy to lose on a crowded show floor. Across seven shows on two continents (SLAS, ADLM/AACC, ECCMID — Chicago, San Diego, Anaheim, Denmark), the job was to keep one recognizable TECAN presence from show to show, adapt it to very different footprints, and translate complex lab-automation science into clarity a visitor grasps in seconds — on a modular system, year after year.

The approach

I built a modular brand system, not a one-off booth: a design language that flexed across footprints while staying unmistakably TECAN, balancing product visibility, precision, and audience flow. Each show adapted the system to its space and story — sketches to layouts to 3D to built stand. The program peaked at SLAS 2025 in San Diego with the launch of Veya, TECAN's next-generation biopharma solution: a 30×40-ft environment where the design and the lighting came together and the booth looked magnificent.

What I directed (concept → build)

  • Creative direction and the modular brand system across the full program
  • Exhibition design for each show — concept, layout, spatial design
  • Screen/LED content and the graphic language
  • Led a team of graphic and 3D designers, then directed the install on-site and handed over a turnkey stand

2022–2025; shows include SLAS, ADLM/AACC and ECCMID across the US and Europe.

The result

Four years, seven shows, 10,000+ cumulative visitors — the client stayed with us edition after edition, happy with the design and the creative process. The Veya launch at SLAS 2025 was the high point: the most-visited stand of the show.
